Blame It On The Drink

It started like any other

I was convinced I'd met the mother

of my children which until then

was generally how it seemed to start

Dream big, aim high, one step at a time.

Experience had taught me that love wasn’t on my side

Do I give in and hide or do I keep searching

pushing through the hurt and try to find the person

and when you find her everything is certain.

She owned me before she'd, she'd even known me

She had me from the start

I was caught in her trap with no way to turn back

like a song on repeat where my heart is the beat

and the beat is my heart

You can blame it on the drink, you can blame it on the mood

I blame it on your eyes, I blame it on the moon

I mean it right now and in the future too

Here's a man who would do anything for you

Date one was a warning, an awkward meeting,

a flustered greeting.

The waiter gave that, 'this is text book' look

like he'd seen it a hundred times before

a pretty girl with an average man

scraping together every penny he can

forking out to prove he was no cheap skate

breaking the bank on her with no chance of a second date.

We chatted over our starter, I joked and she laughed

And quickly the bottle emptied into the glass

Before I knew it I was rambling, frantically scrambling

for words to say, hoping they would come my way

You can blame it on the drink, you can blame it on the mood

I blame it on your eyes, I blame it on the moon

I mean it right now and in the future too

Here's a man who would do anything for you

At the end of dessert I knew the time had come

time to man up, she slurred 'this has been fun'

We leave the candlelight behind us and go out into the night

The warm breeze, the happy trees were a welcoming sight

I don't have a Mercedes, I don't have a limousine

I don't have carriage fit for a Princess or a Queen

Nothing would have been good enough

No chariot could carry her they way she deserved

But she wouldn't let that stop her

A gentle stroll led us past the supermarket

Supermarket. One word that solved it before we'd even started.

Before I knew it she was gone, off in search of adventure

She found a mode of transport and I had to surrender

'Push me' she screamed, as she clambered into the driver seat

in amongst a coke can, an old newspaper and a receipt,

I steered us down towards the town, until we ended at the park.

It was deserted; turns out people don't like the dark.

A woman sat alone on a bench and flagged us down with a wave

She said she liked our spirit, that we were the happiest people she has seen all day.

Here's a woman who is truly happy, I can tell that this is new

But here's a man who would do anything for you

You can blame it on the drink, you can blame it on the mood

I blame it on your eyes, I blame it on the moon

I mean it right now and in the future too

Here's a man who would do anything for you
